Upadhan Tap is an extended period (usually 18, 28, 35, or 47 days) where laymen and laywomen temporarily live the life of an ascetic. This requires absolute isolation from worldly comforts, highly restricted diets, and a rigorously disciplined schedule of study and meditation.
